Your evaluation

Understand what may be causing your pain and which therapeutic options fit your goals. Dr. Coon brings your history, a focused examination and diagnostic ultrasound when indicated into one conversation about your next step.

We generally begin with one concern or region. When symptoms involve several areas, the evaluation can expand to understand how they fit together.

Regions evaluated

Browse concerns by region: shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee, and ankle and foot.

Evaluation across these regions includes joint, muscle, tendon, ligament, and peripheral nerve concerns.

What Dr. Coon is trying to clarify

The evaluation helps clarify:

  • The explanations that best fit your symptoms and examination
  • Connections between the painful area and a wider pattern
  • How imaging findings relate to your symptoms
  • Questions that need further investigation
  • Reasonable next steps, including rehabilitation, testing, treatment or referral

The goal is not to force every symptom into one root cause. Some evaluations narrow the question to a few leading explanations rather than producing one final answer.

When ultrasound belongs in the visit

After the history and physical examination, ultrasound is used only when it can answer a specific question raised by the evaluation.

Dr. Coon does not base a recommendation on an image alone. He considers it in the context of the rest of the evaluation.

Is this visit right for your concern?

The standard service is for adults 18 and older. Athletes ages 16 to 17 with a focused high-school sports injury may be considered case by case with a parent or legal guardian. No referral is required.

  • Recent injuries: An evaluation may fit after urgent concerns, fracture and dislocation have been appropriately addressed.
  • After surgery: Dr. Coon may recommend coordination with or clearance from your surgeon before evaluating or treating the area.
  • Spine concerns: Dr. Coon does not currently treat spinal conditions. Spine-related concerns are directed to an appropriate spine specialist.

Broader medical concerns and comprehensive primary care needs belong with another clinician. A scan or procedure is recommended only when it has a useful role in your care.

Safety boundary

For an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For a concern needing attention today, contact primary care or urgent care. More on urgent symptoms.
